Private couture alterations in London require both technical precision and a discreet, client-focused approach.
Behind every perfectly fitted gown is a story rarely told.
Private Alterations was created not simply as an alteration service, but as a discreet atelier dedicated to preserving the integrity, craftsmanship, and emotional significance of couture garments.
My name is Tina Valydon, and I specialise in bridal and evening wear alterations for clients who expect precision, discretion, and calm expertise throughout important moments in their lives.
A Journey Built on Craft and Curiosity
My journey into couture alterations began in Manchester, where I pursued fashion studies while working in my first seamstress role. Under the guidance of an in-house designer and tailor, I developed foundational sewing skills that quickly evolved into a deep fascination with garment construction.
Within a short period, garments I created appeared on the runway of a private fashion show associated with a television personality, followed by the opportunity to contribute to costume production for an ITV drama. Witnessing these creations on screen later felt surreal and confirmed that craft could lead to unexpected and meaningful experiences.
From there, I transitioned into luxury lingerie sample machining — a role that introduced me to the delicate precision of lace, contour construction, and fine finishing techniques. As a natural perfectionist, working with intricate materials felt instinctively aligned with my strengths.
Although my academic path ultimately led to footwear design, my creative focus remained firmly rooted in textiles, lace, and couture construction. After graduation, I returned to garments, working with private clients to alter and occasionally create bespoke dresses while refining my technical understanding of fit and silhouette.
Understanding the Client Experience
Seeking deeper insight into the client journey, I later worked within luxury bridal retail, where I gained invaluable exposure to designer gowns, fabrication, styling considerations, and the emotional significance of wedding attire.
This experience became a turning point. By combining technical skill with client-facing insight, I began specialising in couture and high-end alterations, focusing on garments that require both sensitivity and structural expertise.
Today, my work includes collaborations with luxury boutiques and designers, including direct alteration work with Monique Lhuillier, alongside a growing private clientele attending prestigious weddings, galas, and international events.
Beyond Alterations: A Private Atelier Approach
While alterations remain central, my role frequently extends beyond traditional tailoring.
Clients seek support with:
• structural couture transformations
• silhouette redesign and garment adaptation
• veil styling and fitting consultations
• wardrobe continuity across multi-day events
• emergency couture alterations
• on-site dressing and event assistance
• steaming, bustling, and final garment preparation
• coordination with photographers to maintain visual perfection
From ensuring trains move gracefully to preserving the integrity of delicate fabrics during high-pressure moments, my aim is always to allow clients to remain fully present while their garments are quietly managed behind the scenes.
Trusted by Planners, Boutiques, and International Clients
Much of my work comes through personal referrals from planners, boutiques, and past clients. This trust has led to projects involving destination weddings, luxury hotel preparations, and fittings within private residences across London and internationally.
Clients often come from diverse backgrounds and travel from across the world, united by a desire for discretion, reliability, and couture-level attention to detail.
Working Across International Luxury Destinations
Over time, my work has taken me beyond the traditional atelier setting into a variety of luxury environments and destinations.

Projects have included preparing bridal gowns within historic London hotel suites such as The Goring, coordinating fittings during client stays at The Peninsula London, and assisting with celebrations connected to venues including Claridge’s and The Dorchester.
Internationally, I have supported brides and clients across destinations ranging from Tuscany and Lake Como to South Africa, adapting fittings and dressing services to multi-location wedding schedules and destination events.
Many clients travel regularly to London from global capitals such as Riyadh, Doha, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi, often bringing
newly acquired couture pieces to be refined during their visits.
Private Couture Alterations in London
London frequently becomes the meeting point for international private clients visiting from the Middle East, Europe, and the United States, bringing newly acquired couture garments for discreet refinement during their stay.
Fittings may take place within private residences, boutique environments, or hotel suites, reflecting a flexible and discreet service model designed around each client’s lifestyle.
Whether preparing a gown within a historic London suite, travelling between Italian wedding locations, or assisting an entire bridal party during destination celebrations abroad, the objective remains consistent: to ensure garments perform flawlessly across environments while allowing clients to remain fully present in their experience.
Many clients also acquire couture pieces outside of specific occasions, seeking refinement, transformation, or wardrobe preparation for future moments — services that may take place within private residences, boutique environments, or hotel suites during their visits to London.
The Philosophy Behind Private Alterations
Garments carry emotional weight. They represent milestones, memories, and personal identity.
My role is not simply to alter fabric, but to ensure each client feels confident, supported, and entirely at ease in their garment — whether during a fitting, a ceremony, or a once-in-a-lifetime moment captured by photography.
Private Alterations was created with this philosophy in mind: a discreet couture service that blends technical expertise with calm presence and genuine care.
Looking Ahead
This journal will share insights into couture alterations, garment transformations, and behind-the-scenes perspectives on working with delicate, meaningful pieces across a variety of settings.
Whether you are a bride, stylist, planner, or private client, my goal remains the same — to ensure each garment supports not only your silhouette, but your experience and presence within the moment itself.
